Hangover (Poem #28)

I could never dare look at you in the eye
but when once i did
I swear the way I stared
could’ve had you killed

I may have said when I looked at you
that I was drunk the entire relationship
but did you ever wonder what I meant when I said that?

What I did, when I was with you
could be summed up with what I’d do
when I am wasted

I never took a step back
I swerved all the way to where you are
I did what I think you’d like
without you having to ask

My visions blurred, and focused on you
and for once, I never cared about all that surrounds
I didn’t know that everything I did
could be the most stupid thing I could do my entire life

All I know is that all the time I was doing it
from happiness I thought I could die
So imagine what happened when the alcohol subsided
imagine what comes after
imagine the terrible hangover

When the alcohol left my system
and the toxins seemed hard to drain
I said, “there’s no way I’d be drinking again”
and when you left me with my being completely stained
I said, “there’s no way I’m loving again.”

There was one night when the rain poured so hard, and i didn't want it to stop. Weird, because i was afraid and amused by the sound of the rain and thunder. The sound of it made me less alone that night. The next day i woke up to find my collection of journals soaked. I keep it near the window to make sure no one could read it. The writings can still be read but i was devastated by the damage. I wanted it preserved but i don't want it published. Still amused by the rain but afraid of the wrath it could bring to my journals, i created this blog.
