Today’s Mistake (Poem #3)

Caring has become so rare
people mistake it as flirting
or simply needing something

Loving has become so rare
that people carry around checklists
of distorted standards
blinded by what society thinks is lovable
everyone unqualified
are mostly left alone

Generosity has become so rare
people only give for the sake of credit
and getting back

Before extending a hand
one must first ask
“What’s in it for me?
More money, probably?”

Most of the time
we genuinely care, love, and give
only on the verge of losing someone

But we can’t tell someone’s fate
we can’t know when we’ll lose them
so most of the time,
we are all too late.

There was one night when the rain poured so hard, and i didn't want it to stop. Weird, because i was afraid and amused by the sound of the rain and thunder. The sound of it made me less alone that night. The next day i woke up to find my collection of journals soaked. I keep it near the window to make sure no one could read it. The writings can still be read but i was devastated by the damage. I wanted it preserved but i don't want it published. Still amused by the rain but afraid of the wrath it could bring to my journals, i created this blog.
